MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Sayre grad Brayden Horton, a sophomore on Liberty University baseball team, belted a gram slam to help the Flames to an 11-6 win over Middle Tennessee here Friday night for the program’s first-ever win in Conference USA.

Horton’s slam, the second of his career, gave Liberty an 8-2 lead in the top of the seventh inning, and triggered a seven-run outburst.

Horton, who started in right field, was 1-for-2 in the win. He was also hit by a pitch, and picked up his first stolen base of the season.

On Tuesday, Horton ripped a pinch-hit, two-RBI triple in an 8-7 loss to Virginia Commonwealth.

Horton, who has been limited  by injury to just 10 starts this season, is hitting .182 (6 hits in 33 ABs), with six runs scored, one triple, two home runs, and 10 RBI.

Last year, Horton was second on the team with 13 doubles and six home runs, third on the team with 40 RBI, and fourth on the team with 56 hits. He hit, 341 and had a .471 on-base percentage.

Liberty, now 9-12, returns to action against Middle Tennessee this afternoon at 4 p.m.
