PHD DANCE TEAM BRINGS HOME HARDWARE FROM FIRST COMPETITION OF SEASON (2024-03-27)

BINGHAMTON — The PHD Dance Studios Competition team recently hit the stage for the first time this season at the Celebration Talent Regional Dance Competition held here March 8-10.

The team brought 55 of its choreographed specialty numbers to compete against nine other studios from around the region. Dancers competed their Solos, Duets, Trios, and Small Groups in the Junior Intermediate Division and the Teen and Senior Advanced Divisions.

Routines were scored and Adjudicated earning seven Gold, 35 High Gold, and eight Platinum scores, as well as one Ruby and four Diamond scores – the highest level of adjudication for this competition.

Several of the routines performed were chosen by Judges for Special Recognition. These included one Showstopper Award for “Welcome to the Jungle”, three Choreography Awards for “Unforgettable,” “The Days,” and “Closure; three Performance Awards for “River,” “Dear Ladies,” and “Go Into Your Dance;” and two Judges Choice Awards for “Simply the Best,” and “Mothers and Daughters.”  

Ellen Hefron (Junior Category), Lily Watkins (Teen Category) and Amaya Carr (Senior Category) were each named as “Dancer of the Year” finalists. Out of a total of 447 dances performed for the competition, six routines were named Category winners, and 15 of PHD’s routines scored in the overalls.

Overall results were as follows:

•  15th Place: (Junior Solo) – Maci Campbell with “Power”
•  13th Place: (Senior Solo) – Madi Jones with “Build My Mom a House”
•  12th Place: (Senior Solo)- Regan McDaniel with “Shake Your Groove Thing”
•    9th Place: (Junior Solo) – Jozlyn Bean with “Removed”
•    9th Plage:    (Teen Solo) – Lilley Watkins with “Strange”
•    7th Place: (Junior Solo) – Ellen Hefron with “Something New”
•    5th Place: (Junior Duo / Trio) “It’s Raining Men” performed by Adrian Jackson, Noelle McGee, and Paige Berthiume
•    4th Place: (Junior Solo) Hannah Behm with “Where I Wanna Be”
•    4th Place:  (Senior Solo) McKenna Patton with “Elastic Heart”
•    3rd Place: (Teen Duo/Trio) – “Groove” performed by Madi Jones and Lilley Watkins
•    2nd Place: (Junior Small Group)- “The Days” performed by Alexis Thompson, Emily Coco, Hannah Behm, Jozlyn Bean and Maci Campbell
•    1st Place: (Teen Small Group) – “River” performed by Madi Jones, McKenna Patton, Layla Grubb, Lilley Watkins and Mackenzie Campbell
•    1st Place:  (Senior Duo/Trio) “Unforgettable” performed by Madi Jones and McKenna Patton
•    1st Place: (Junior Solo) Alexis Thompson with “Stomp to My Beat”
•    1st Place:  (Teen Solo) Alyssa Pettit with “Welcome to the Jungle”

“The dancers were excited to return to the stage and are looking forward to their first full team competition at the end of April,” said PHD coach Diana Layton Jones.
