THE VALLEY — Waverly senior Ralph Johnson keeps getting faster, and breaking records, while Tioga junior Erin Luther helped Tioga to a 3-0 mark on the diamond. They are the Valley Sports Report / Bishop Brothers Construction “Athletes of the Week,” for the week ending April 20.

WAVERLY’S JOHNSON NAMED BISHOP BROTHERS CONSTRUCTION BOYS “ATHLETE OF THE WEEK”
Johnson was a triple-winner at Johnson CIty’s Square Deal Track & Field Invitational, including a record-breaking performance in the 100-meter dash.

Johnson won the 100 in a time of 10.81 seconds, but ran a school-record time of 10.7 seconds in the preliminaries. He also ran the anchor leg on the 400-meter relay, and was on the first-place 1,600-meter relay as well.

Earlier in the week, Johnson won the 100-meter dash in Waverly’s dual against Owego. He also ran the anchor leg on the winning 400-meter relay that clocked in at 43.56 seconds.

TIOGA’S LUTHER NAMED BISHOP BROTHERS CONSTRUCTION GIRLS “ATHLETE OF THE WEEK”
Luther hit .500 on the week, and fanned 16 in 10 innings while recording a pair of wins during Tioga’s 3-0 week.

On Monday, Luther was 2-for-4 with two runs, scored and two RBI in a 16-2 win over Groton.

On Tuesday, Luther was 3-for-4 with a double, one run scored, and three RBI. She also allowed zero earned runs on two hits, while striking out nine in five innings to earn a win in a 15-2 Tioga victory.

On Friday. Luther hit a two-run home run in four at-bats in a 16-2 win. She also allowed two runs on one hit, while striking out seven in five innings.

For the week, Luther was 6-for-12 at the plate, with one double, one home run, four runs scored, and six RBI. In the circle, she was 2-0 with a 1.40 ERA, allowing three hits in 10 innings, while striking out 16.
