NTL BASEBALL: NORTHEAST BRADFORD TOPS SAYRE, 6-3 (18 PHOTOS) (2024-04-22)

Valley Sports Report
SAYRE — Northeast Bradford took the lead in the fourth inning, then staved off Sayre in the final three innings to pull out a 6-3 win here Monday afternoon in NTL Small School Division baseball action at Riverfront Park.

The Redskins took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when senior Jon Apgar reached on an error, and later scored on an RBI groundout off the bat of senior Will Crossett.

After NEB tied the game in the top of the third inning on a Sayre error, sophomore Karter Green stroked an RBI single to plate senior Kaden Bennett, who led off the inning with a walk, to give the Redskins a 2-1 lead.

The Panthers took the lead with two runs in the top of the fourth, scoring the first on an error, and the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Dillon Donnelly.

NEB made it 4-2 on an RBI single by Cayden McPherson in the top of the fifth inning.

Karter Green worked a two-out walk in the home half of the fifth, then Crossett singled up the middle, but both were left stranded.

The Redskins loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the sixth, but only managed one run — on a one-out sacrifice fly by Bennett — close the gap to 4-3.

NEB added a pair of unearned runs in the top of the seventh to extend its lead to 6-3.

Crossett and senior Tanner Green each hit singles in the home half of the seventh, but the final out was made on the base paths to end the game.

Crossett singled twice and drove in one run, and Tanner Green doubled and singled to pace Sayre’s six-hit attack, while Karter Green singled and drove in one run, junior Nick Pellicano singled and scored one run, and Bennett scored one run, and drove in one run.

Bennett was tagged with the loss, allowing four runs — only one earned — on four hits, while striking out three and walking one in 4 1/3 innings.

Apgar allowed two unearned runs on two hits, while striking out one in 1 2/3 innings of relief, and freshman Shaine Strickland threw just five pitches to retire all three batters he faced.

Sayre, now 3-5, returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Cowanesque Valley.
