Dom Fabbri, a sophomore at Corning CC, and
Kannon VanDuzer, a sophomore at Tompkins-Cortland CC — squared off here Saturday in a doubleheader, and their teams each came away with a win.
Tioga was also well-represented with freshman
Max Dydynski at TCCC, and
Dakota Skinner as the second-year head coach at Corning CC.
In the opener, Corning CC scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull out an 11-10 win, while TCCC won the nightcap, 8-5..
In the first game, Fabbri tossed 2 2/3 inning, allowing two runs on two hits, while walking three and striking out one.
VanDuzer singled and drove in one run in five at-bats.
In the second game, VanDuzer tripled and doubled, scored two runs, and had three RBI to help TCCC to an 8-1 lead on its way to an 8-5 win.
Tioga grad Max Dydynski was 2-for-3 with two doubles, and one run scored in the win.
The two teams also met in a doubleheader on Thursday with TCCC winning both in walk-off fashion — 12-11 in the opener, and 9-8 in eight innings in the nightcap.
In the opener, VanDuzer singled and scored, and Dydynski scored one run.
In the nightcap, VanDuzer scored one run, and had two RBI, Fabbri allowed one run in 1 1/3 innings of relief.
On the season, VanDuzer is hitting .280 (14 hits in 50 ABs) with two doubles, one triple, 11 RBI, and 11 runs scored.
Dydynski is hitting .211 (4 hits in 19 ABs) with two doubles, three runs scored, three RBI, and one stolen base. Defensively, Dydynski is flawless in 37 defensive chances, and has thrown out six runners attempting to steal.
Fabbri has appeared in seven games, posting an 0-2 record with a 12.34 ERA. He has seven strikeouts in 11 2/3 innings pitched.
