NTL JV BASEBALL: BIG INNING PROPELS ATHENS TO 15-3 WIN OVER WYALUSING (2024-04-23)

ATHENS — Athens poured 14 runs across the plate in the bottom of the fourth inning to erase a two-run deficit, and top Wyalusing 15-3 in five innings here Monday afternoon in NTL junior varsity baseball action.

The Rams led 3-1 after 3 1/2 innings.

Brady Flynn and Noah Hobday stroked singles, sandwiched around a base on balls to Duncan Thetga, to load the bases to start the bottom of the fourth inning. After a passed ball closed the gap to 3-2, Alex McQuay rapped an RBI single to tie the game at 3-3.

With one out, Ryan Driesbaugh put the Wildcats on top, 4-3, with an RBI single, and an error plated a pair of runs to make it 6-3.

After a walk to Kamdyn Wheeler, Zac Fisher and Flynn hit back-to-back RBI singles to make it 8-3, and Thetga followed with a two-run single to extend the lead to 10-3.

Noah Hobday kept it going with a single, and Rodney Chapman added to the lead with an RBI single. After a walk to Lucas Greninger, Colin Congdon knocked in a run with a groundout to make it 12-3.

Following a walk to Karson Sipley, Wheeler and Fisher stroked consecutive RBI singles, and the final Wildcat run scored on an error during FIsher’s hit.

Driesbaugh and Fisher each singled twice, scored one run, and had one RBI, while Flynn singled twice, scored two runs, and drove in one run, and Hobday singled twice and scored two runs to pace the Wildcats’ 12-hit attack.

Thetga singled, scored three runs, and had two RBI in the win, while Wheeler, McQuay, and Chapman each singled, scored one run, and drove in one run, Sipley scored two runs, and knocked in two runs, Congdon had one RBI, and Greninger crossed the plate once.

Wheeler earned the win for the Wildcats, allowing three runs — none earned — on five hits, while striking out five and walking three in four innings of work. Flynn stuck out one in a scoreless inning of relief.

Athens, now 4-1, returns to action Saturday at Towanda.
