WYALUSING — Sayre dropped the opener of its doubleheader with Wyalusing, but picked up an 8-7 walk-off win in the nightcap here Monday afternoon in NTL junior high baseball action.

Wyalusing 5, Sayre 4
Sayre outhit Wyalusing, but errors proved costly in the Rams’ 5-4 win in the opening game of the twinbill.

The Redskins took the early with two runs in the top of the first inning. Brayden Northrup led off the game with a single, and later scored on a passed ball. An RBI single by Carson Dietz to plate Riley McGaughey gave Sayre a 2-0 lead.

After Wyalusing closed the gap to 2-1 in the home half of the first, McGaughey drove in a run with a groundout to put the Redskins up 3-1 after 2 1/2 innings.

The Rams answered with three runs in the bottom of the third to take a 4-3 lead, then tacked on another run in the fourth to make it 5-3.

Tucker Green led off the top of the fifth inning with a single, and scored on a one-out RBI single by Blake Zingeser to trim the deficit to 5-4, but that was all the damage Sayre would do.

Zingeser doubled and singled, and drove in one run to lead Sayre’s five-hit attack, while Brayden Northrup singled and scored two runs, Dietz singled and knocked in one run, Green singled and scored a run, and McGaughey scored one run, and drove in one run.

McGaughey was tagged with the tough-luck loss, allowing five runs — one earned — on one hit, while striking out five and walking six. Zingeser allowed one hit and one walk, while striking out two in two-thirds of an inning of relief.

Sayre 7, Wyalusing 6
Brayden Northrup scooted home on an errant throw in the bottom of the seventh in Sayre’s 7-6 walk-off win over Wyalusing in the nightcap of the doubleheader.

Sayre, playing as the home team, took an early three-run lead in the bottom of the first inning.

McGaughey sparked the rally with a two-out single, and scored on an RBI double by McGaughey, who later scored on a balk. Dietz then worked a walk, and advanced around the bases on passed balls to make it 3-0

Wyalusing answered with two unearned runs in the top of the second inning to trim the deficit to 3-2, hen scored two more runs in the third inning to take a 4-3 lead.

Sayre tied the game in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Green, then took the lead, at 5-4, on an RBI single by McGaughey. The Redskins takes on another run later in the inning and led 6-4 after three innings.

Wyalusing tied the game in the top of the sixth, setting the stage for Sayre’s walk-off win.

McGaughey singled twice, scored one run, and drove in one run, Zingeser doubled, scored two runs, and had one RBI, and Green singled, scored one run, and knocked in one run to account for Sayre’s four hits. Northrup scored two runs in the win, and Dietz crossed the plate once.

Zingeser started on the mound for the Redskins, and allowed one hit, while striking out two in a scoreless inning. Green relieved, and allowed two unearned runs on one hit and one walk, while striking out two.

Paul Potter allowed two runs — one earned — on three hits, while striking out six and walking one in two innings of relief.

Northrup picked up the win, allowing two runs on two hits and two walks in one inning of relief.

Sayre, now 2-2, returns to action Thursday when it hosts Athens for a doubleheader.
