IAC SOFTBALL: FEEKO, LUTHER POWER TIOGA IN 20-1 ROUT OF MARATHON (15 PHOTOS) (2024-04-25)

TIOGA CENTER — Sophomore RaeAnne Feeko and junior Erin Luther led Tioga’s 19-hit attack in support of Luther’s 1-hitter in a, 20-1, five-inning win over Marathon here Thursday afternoon in IAC Small School softball action.

Luther fanned nine, and walked three, while allowing one earned run in five innings to earn the win.

Feeko was 3-for-4 with a home run, four runs scored, three stolen bases, and five RBI, and Luther was 3-for-4 with a triple, three runs scored, and five RBI to lead the Tigers’ offensive onslaught.

Sophomore Lily Mezzatesta rapped a pair of doubles, scored two runs, and drove in three runs in the win, while senior Megan Vance singled twice, scored two runs, and knocked in two runs, senior Elizabeth Shaffer singled twice, scored three runs, and drove in one run, and senior Emily Bidwell singled twice, scored two runs, and had one RBI.

Junior McKenzie Williams doubled and singled, and scored two runs for the Tigers, while sophomore Emily Shiner singled twice, and scored one run, and freshman Vanessa Tunnicliff doubled, and scored one run.

Tioga took immediately control of the game with five runs in the home half of the first in a rally that featured a two-run double by Mezzatesta, and RBI singles by Luther and Vance.

After scoring a run in the second inning, Tioga added four runs in the third inning, highlighted by RBI singles by Feeko and Luther.

in the bottom of the fourth inning, Tioga’s first 11 batters reached base during a 10-run rally.

Shaffer led off the inning with a walk, Tunnicliff followed with a double, and Feeko drilled a three-run shot to left field to make it 13-0.

After a double by Williams, Luther belted a triple to make it 14-0.

Following a walk to Shiner, Bidwell and Vance hit consecutive RBI singles to extend the lead to 16-0. Mezzatesta kept it going with an RBI double, and Shaffer stroked an RBI single to push the advantage to 18-0.

Earley was the 11th straight batter to reach to start the inning, drawing a walk, and Feeko made it 19-0 with a sacrifice fly. After a single by Williams, Luther capped the rally with a bases-loaded walk to force home a run.

Marathon scored its only run in the top of the fifth inning, using three walks and a hit batsman to avoid the shutout.

Tioga, now 6-1, takes on Batavia in the opening-round of the Testa Tournament at Windsor on Saturday at 11 a.m. Windsor and Deposit-Hancock will play in the other first-round game.

The championship and consolation games will be played at 1 p.m.
